Over 35s
Our over 35s were back in action after a years layoff, took some of them the full year to recover from last year! Big thanks to Bishopstown GAA for the invite and a fantastic day out!
Na Piarsaigh played Nemo Rangers in the first game of the day and lost out 0-3 to 1-5. The first half was nip and tuck and the young gun Padraig Gould stepped up to kick the first point of the day for Na Piarsaigh in what would be a two pointer if the new rules were passed as it was from outside the 45! Jamie Boland made an excellent save at the end of the first half to keep Na Piarsaigh in the game as HT was 0-2 to 1-3 in favour of Nemo. Na Piarsaigh only had a single score in the second half, a pointed free from Colin Sull as they lost out 0-3 to 1-5. Already a positive start on last year as they didn’t score in the first game!
The second game was end to end with familiar foes Ballincollig in what was a repeat of a classic last year. Albeit the score was only 0-1 a piece at HT, it was edge of the seat stuff, bar the shooting! Seán O Reilly was quick to fix that at the start of the second half with a cracker of a point, then Ballincollig took the lead 0-3 to 0-2, only for manager Brian Gardiner to make an inspired substitution by bringing on Teu Ó hÁilpín after his late arrival and with his first touch rippled the back of the net! This was followed up by the trusty Cian O’Mahony kicking the insurance score as Na Piarsaigh held on for a 1-3 to 0-3 victory, the first at this age grade, a historical moment!
In the last game Na Piarsaigh played hosts Bishopstown in yet another end to end game, the pace hadn’t slowed these lads down! At HT the score read 0-3 each and a final result of 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of Bishopstown.
Thanks to all the players who played and selectors who helped out and to the families and friends who came out to support a great days football! Well done to Bishopstown on a successful day!
